Lexmark P707 Inkjet Printer Review

The Lexmark P707 inkjet printer is a cheap photo printer that can also handle general home use. For those who need a cheap printer for documents and perhaps the odd photo and intend to print low volumes then the Lexmark P707 should be on your list but not at the top.

Average general use home printer

With a lost cost of under $100 the Lexmark P707 is aimed squarely at low volume home use.

The Lexmark P707 is very compact

The main problem with computers at home is that they take up heaps of space. Even with an LCD monitor you still have a keyboard, mouse, printer and stacks of CD cases lol.

By far the biggest attraction of this printer are it's good looks and compact size. Print quality is acceptable only, however and you definitely know your using a budget printer.

Text output was just OK, producing legible 3.5-point font size text and up. The inkjet's color graphics were good overall with only slight dithering visible on some of the outputs. On the other hand, the draft outputs of the P707 were not clean, resembling turnouts you'd expect from most photocopiers.

The biggest letdown, though, was the photo printing. Even at maximum enhanced resolution of 4,800-optimized dpi rating and additional photo ink cartridge, the unit produced photos with visible dithering and banding. !

The other huge drawback this printer has is that it cannot do borderless photo prints! This is very disappointing for what is supposed to be a photo printer. It even has media card ports for printing directly from your digital camera

Print speed is actually not too bad strangely making this printer better suited to producing color documents rather than photos.

Here are the specifications:

  • Speed (actual not claimed): A4 color prints ~3 minutes, 5.6 pages per minute black text
  • USB interface
  • Total Input Media Capacity 100 sheets
  • 4,800 x 2,400 dpi (enhanced not native resolution)
  • 2 inkjet cartridge design

Lexmark P707 the photo printer that isn't

With only a 2 cartridge design, black and color cartridge or photo cartridge and color cartridge. This printer can never be as economical as some multi cartridge designs. This lack of economy is further enhanced by Lexmark's higher than average inkjet cartridge cost.

In the end the compact size and adequate color document printing ability do save this printer. But only from itself. In my mind the competition is a little ahead and there are better printers for you to spend your hard earned money on.
