Canon i850 inkjet printer with a top resolution of 4,800 x 1,200dpi even outclasses (on paper, no pun) professional photo printers such as Epson's A3 Stylus Photo 2100. With such an impressive print engine it's a shame beyond photos this printer seriously stumbles.

The Canon i850 inkjet a good choice for A4 photos
Photos on special coated photo paper look stunning. The color are bright and the resolution superb. It would be a fantastic printer choice except color documents on copier paper are barely adequate.
In printing graphics on plain paper the Canon disappointed with its poor color matching; the orange was light, the purple low, and the black faded. There also appears to be the occasional problem with horizontal banding on the printouts.
The Canon i850 really is best used as a photo printer which is a shame because it doesn't feature a card reader to allow you to print directly from a camera.
The i850 ink costs are good though. You'll pay around 50 cents per 8.5x10-inch photo page and 4.1 cents per A4-sized black-and-white text page. All things considered, this sub-$200 printer costs less than many other printers that offer the same photo quality.

With fantastic photo prints and low ink costs the Canon i850 is a superb photo printer. A lot of professional photographers won't miss the lack of a card reader since they would most likely touch up, crop and edit photos on a computer first.
When it comes to printing documents there are much better choices out there, the Canon S530D color inkjet springs to mind.
